  2. Poperinge is een stad op de Belgisch-Franse grens en bestaat uit 10 deelgemeenten. Het leeuwendeel van de deelgemeenten zijn kleine dorpen. Poperinge is een terminus van de spoorlijn Kortrijk-Poperinge.

  3. Poperinge is located on the Belgian/French border in the south of West-Flandres. Poperinge has 10 districts, mostly small villages. It has a railway station which is a terminus railway station.

  5. Talbot House Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog maakt Poperinge deel uit van het kleine stukje onbezet België. Weg van het krijgsrumoer van de Ieperse frontstreek, groeit de stad uit tot het zenuwcentrum van de Britse sector. Midden in die drukke stad openen de aalmoezeniers Neville Talbot en Philip "Tubby" Clayton in december 1915 een Clubhuis. Zonder onderscheid van rang kunnen soldaten er drie jaar lang terecht voor een zeldzaam moment van rust en ontspanning. Vandaag is de plek, net als toen, een vredige halte langs het parcours van de "Grote Oorlog" in de Westhoek. Een levend museum Een bezoek aan Talbot House begint gewoonlijk in de oude hopschuur van het huis die tijdens de oorlog omgevormd werd tot een concertzaal. De permanente tentoonstelling over het leven achter het front op het gelijkvloers van dat gebouw leunt het dichtste aan bij wat je van een normaal museum zou verwachten. De expositie is uitgewerkt als een plakboek van verschillende personages die gedurende de oorlog in de buurt van Poperinge terecht kwamen. Je leert er onder andere waarom deze stad tijdens de oorlog "Little Paris" werd genoemd, hoe het kampleven van de soldaten er aan toe ging en hoe ze er de moraal hoog hielden.

In the center of the town, 2 British priests, NevillTalbotand Philip Claytonopened in 1915 a clubhouse. Everysoldier, no matter what rang they had in the army, couldstayto relax andto amuse themselfswithconcerts, pubs, … It was aneveryman’s club. Today the Talbot House is a museum about the life at the western front. The story is toldby different soldierswhocameto Poperinge during WW1. You get the chance tolearn more about Poperinge during WW1, when the city was called Little Paris foritsnightlife. The city made a major contributionto the state of mind of all British soldierswhowerefightingduring the war. It was also the first big cityneartoYpres. Lots of wounded British soldierscameto Poperinge torecoverfromtheirwounds. Poperinge had several military hospitals.
