SECTION ON PERINATAL PEDIATRICS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2009 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM POSTER SESSION AND OPENING RECEPTION This session will focus on approximately 40 posters in which participants will be exposed to up-to-date research in the area of Perinatal Pediatrics. The participant will be able to interact with the researchers on a one-on-one basis. The participant will be able to assess the relevance of the research to the care of his/her own patients. 6:00-7:00 PM Authors present at posters 6:30-7:00 PM Poster Walk Discussions with Authors 7:00-7:30 PMMarshall Klaus Trainee Awards

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17 8:00 AM-11:30 AM Morning Session SCIENTIFIC ABSTRACT PRESENTATIONS This session will focus on 12 Platform Presentations given by the primary author followed by a short discussion. Participants will be exposed to up-to-date research in the area of Perinatal Pediatrics. The participant will be able to interact with the researchers in a question and answer session. The participant will be able to assess the relevance of the research to the care of his/her own patients. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18 • NEONATAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR: FORMAT: MEET THE EXPERTS • This workshop is intended to provide the opportunity for trainees and neonatologists exploring new horizons to discuss options and implications of various career paths in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. • Workshop Leaders: John Hartline and Marilyn Escobedo • CONCURRENT SKILLS WORKSHOPS • The participant will be able to attend 2 of 4 concurrent workshops that should have direct implications in improving patient care in their practice. The workshops are designed to be small enough for significant faculty-participant interaction. • A) Using Simulation to Keep the Team Sharp:   Participants will work with the newest generation of infant simulators to keep staff proficient in management of delivery room scenarios as well as acute decompensation scenarios. • Workshop Leaders: Lou Halamek, Dara Brodsky, Elizabeth Doherty • B) New Mechanical Ventilators: Is the Cadillac Really Better? The participant will learn of some features common to the new generation of mechanical ventilators for neonates to apply some of these new features to improve outcomes in their patients. • Workshop Leaders: Martin Keszler and William Walsh • C) Coding Workshop:FORMAT: AUDIENCE RESPONSE:Participants will learn that appropriate medical coding has become crucial as healthcare providers seek to assure compliance with official coding guidelines and will learn some of the most recent neonatal codes and application of specific CPT codes. • Workshop Leaders: Gilbert I.
