  3. WALT Discuss how the media influences our ideas about the ideal body image. WILF: Students will understand what a ‘normal’ weight is and when weight is becoming a problem. Students will learn about cultural differences in attitude to food and body image. Some students will be able to describe the health consequences of being too thin or too fat. Seal: Be considerate of other people’s feelings and respect how others look and feel about the way they look.

  5. ‘Fabricating beauty’ When you watched the DVD, what did you find most surprising? How much work goes into creating ‘perfect’ pictures? We saw top model Jodie Kidd’s face being made thinner. What do you think about this? How do you think models feel about being manipulated?

  6. Answer the following questions on your paper and then discuss as a class.

  7. Does this person look healthy ? Why ?

  8. Most teenage boys want a 6 pack but would you go this far ? and why ?

  9. This model is meant to look good, in your eyes does she look good ? Why ?

  10. Most teenage boys want to have really big muscles but some people take it too far, what do you think could happen to this person in later life ?

  11. Do you think this woman would want to change her appearance? Why?

  12. Agree or Disagree • Thin people are more attractive • Larger people arent as clever as thin people • Larger people are less fun to hang out with • Agree/ Disagree, Give your reasons why Discuss these points in groups and then as a class with your teacher.
