  1. The LZ student

  2. Once the student is exited from the program, he or she has to be monitored for a period of two years. • Once the student has been monitored for two years, he or she becomes “LZ.”

  3. The ESOL Contact should review the blue insert to make sure that all the paperwork is in order and everything pertinent to the student’s ESOL history is in the file. • It’s important that report cards reflecting the monitoring period of two years be included in the blue insert. • All four LF monitoring dates also need to be entered on the mainframe. For specific LF monitoring dates, please refer to the LF monitoring information on the ESOL Document Bank.

  4. When closing out an LZ file, ESOL Contacts and Information Specialists need to make sure that the student’s limited English code is changed from LF to LZ .

  5. From LY to LZ • You have now learned what happens when a student’s ESOL status changes from • LY (ELL student receiving ESOL strategies) to • LF (former ELL student, exited with in two years) and finally to • LZ (former exited ELL student who has been monitored as an LF student for two years).

  6. When being audited, an auditor can ask for the files of LZ students and can cite findings if these files are not in order. • For new students transferring to your school, it is recommended to thoroughly check the blue inserts and make sure that all important documents have been included. Please check that all 4 LF monitoring dates have been entered on profile.

  7. If and when you have any questions, please contact your on-site ESOL Contact or ESOL Specialist.
