  2. Transformations move figures in the coordinate plane. An isometry is a translation where the pre-image and image are congruent.

  3. Translations • You may think of a translation as a “slide.” • You will discover what moves a figure up, down, left, or right.

  4. Reflections • You may think of a reflection as a “flip.” • You will discover the rules for reflection over the x-axis, the y-axis, the line y = x, and other lines.

  5. Rotations • You may think of a rotation as a “turn.” • We normally rotate about the origin, and we normally rotate counterclockwise, but not always.

  6. Dilations • You may think of a dilation as a “shrink” or “grow.” • Dilations must have a scale factor. • Dilations are the only transformation that is NOT an isometry.
