  2. ORGANIZATION OF COURSES

  3. Course Selection • Students will take grade 11 English at the College, University or Workplace level • Students will take grade 11 Mathematics at the College, College/University(M), University or Workplace level • Some students will need an additional compulsory-check status sheet

  4. Students will choose 8 courses and two alternatives • Students should start researching college, university and apprenticeship programs to find out about prerequisites • www.ontariocolleges.ca • www.electronicinfo.ca • www.tradebility.ca • Students should book an appointment in Student Services if they require assistance

  5. Students who want to keep options open for university should take university math and two university sciences • Students who want to keep their options open for college should take college or college/university math and two college level sciences (SBI3C and SCH4C) • Students who want to do an apprenticeship should take math

  11. DUAL CREDITS AT ALGONQUIN • Students can take a course at Algonquin and receive one college credit and one high school credit • For sample courses go to my website • teacherweb.com • Admission to these program is limited • Students can apply in grade 11 or 12

ON LINE COURSES • Available in the summer in many subject areas • Applications are available in May • Check the UCDSB website and my website • They start July 2nd and end at the end of July • Done at home-5 hrs a day • Best for motivated and independent learners • Also available during the school year in special circumstances (i.e. course is not offered at ADHS, conflict in timetable) • Mostly for grade 12 students requiring specific courses to get into post-secondary studies

SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJORS • There are 3 types of SHSM’s at ADHS • Construction: Focuses on Construction and Design courses in grade 11 and 12 • Information Technology: Focuses on Communication Technology, Yearbook and Design courses in grade 11 and 12 • Non-Profit: Focuses on Social Science, History and Geography courses in grade 11 and 12 • For more information you can stay for presentation

TO DO LIST • Read the course calendar online at http://adhs.ucdsb.on./ca • Start researching college, university and apprenticeship programs to determine requirements • Book an appointment in Students Services for help • Fill out course selection sheet and return to your period 1 teacher by Friday, Feb. 25th.
