  2. CONSTRUCTED PROMPT REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS • Constructed Responses are worth 10% of your marking period grade. 1. Please set up the first page in MLA FORMAT (heading & header*) *All the rest of the prompts will have your last name and page #/Prompt # in the header. 2. Please write the requirements (on the following 2 slides) on this first page and submit it as the cover page for your constructed responses. English 11B

  3. CONSTRUCTED PROMPT REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS 1. Write the TITLE and # for all entries. As a subtitle write the DATE the prompt was assigned. If you were absent-write the date assigned noting you were absent and write the date you made it up. 2. You are to write in COMPLETE SENTENCES. Think of constructed responses as mini-essays. English 11B

  4. CONSTRUCTED PROMPT REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS 3. Have a TOPIC SENTENCE that relates to the prompt. 4. Use SPECIFIC EXAMPLES to illustrate/defend your comments. Make sure you answer ALL PARTS of the prompt. English 11B

  5. CONSTRUCTED PROMPT REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS 5. Use a concluding sentence to wrap up your entry. *Responses are expected to be a MINIMUM of ½ page. If shorter, you probably have not explained yourself fully using an example(s) to show your idea(s). English 11B

Take the time to PROOF READ your journals before you turn them in. -Check for correct spelling -Check for complete sentences -Check grammar rules that you have mastered in 11A -Correct any/all Top 10+ errors. -Avoid “I” in your writings -Follow the Formal Writing Rules taught in this class. -Make sure you have answered ALL parts of the prompt.   7. Constructed Response #1: LANGUAGE • Language changes and evolves to represent the new developments and ideas of a changing global world. The word “texting” did not exist prior to 1920. English 11B

  8. Constructed Response #1: LANGUAGE • Some people argue that rules for language are outdated and they should not be formally taught as part of high school curriculum. Others argue that in order to help improve clear communication and accuracy, grammar rules are necessary and without them, people would lose effective communication skills, especially in written forms. English 11B

  9. Constructed Response #1: LANGUAGE • Do the rules for language matter? Should the formal rules of language continue to be taught in high school curriculum? Take a stand on this issue. • Use a clear topic sentence, evidence, explanation and a closing sentence. Follow the rules given for a correct constructed response. English 11B

Answer should be at least one side of a page. Use specific examples and details to illustrate your thinking. Provide clear explanations. English 11B

Constructed Response #6: Persuasive Words and Logic • In response to this prompt you are to use a logical, persuasive tone making sure to select words for power and a sense of urgency without exaggeration or weak logic. Underline the words you feel are the most persuasive. Make sure your explanations are complete enough to be clear and avoid weakness. Education is the single most crucial tool in a society’s success. Given the harsh economic times, schools are looking for ways to cut costs while not sacrificing education. Some people believe the best way to achieve both goals is to cut the school week down to 4 days. Others argue that the school day should be made shorter but still attend for 5 days a week; still others believe that the traditional schedule should be followed, and savings should be made in ways that do not alter the current schedule. Choose and argue one of the positions. English 11B

  23. BLESS ME, ULTIMA • The next batch of constructed responses will be “journals” that pertain to the novel. Follow the instructions given pertaining to the novel journal writing and due dates. English 11B
