  3. autobiographical or episodic memory= df: an explicit recollection of past episodes belonging to one’s personal experience x does something at t1 and recollects it at t2 autobiographical memory is oriented to the past andthe ‘arrow’ of time points backwards to t1. Claim: an explicit recollection is a source of knowledge, for it brings back information acquired in the past.

Therefore (iii) traces have the power to be retrieved iff they are prompted correctly. Trace is roused by means of a sign representing the original stimulus.
