  2. model for autobiographical memory

  3. autobiographical or episodic memory= df: an explicit recollection of past episodes belonging to one’s personal experience x does something at t1 and recollects it at t2 autobiographical memory is oriented to the past andthe ‘arrow’ of time points backwards to t1. Claim: an explicit recollection is a source of knowledge, for it brings back information acquired in the past.

  4. conditions for autobiographical memory:

  5. conditions for autobiographical memory:

  6. conditions for autobiographical memory: (3) memory traces – dispositionalist view (i) memory traces are dispositions that make possible the retrieval of past experiences and (ii) these dispositions can be actualized if certain conditions are satisfied. Therefore (iii) traces have the power to be retrieved iff they are prompted correctly. (iv) But if cues are false or incomplete -> memory distortion (3a) ecphory condition: recollection is activated iff there is a an attunement between present cue and memory trace. Trace is roused by means of a sign representing the original stimulus. (v) neuroscientific claim: trace or engram is a biochemical change in neural tissue recorded by brain and persists in dispositional state.
