  3. What is a dental implant Whether you need to replace a single tooth or many teeth, dental implants can provide a permanent solution that will let you smile, laugh and enjoy your favorite foods with confidence. Dental implants are specially-made titanium screws placed in the jawbone to serve as a firm foundation for a new tooth or denture that looks and feels completely natural. If you recently lost a tooth or have full or partial dentures, you might want to consider a dental implant. Getting an implant is basically a three part process:

  4. Crowns A crown is a restoration that covers, or caps, a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. Its purpose is to strengthen or improve the appearance of a tooth.A crown is placed for a number of reasons:To support a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining, to attach a bridge, to protect weak teeth from fracturing, to restore fractured teeth and to cover a dental implant.

  5. Porcelain Veneers If stained, chipped, or crooked teeth detract from your smile, porcelain veneers may be the solution for you. Dental veneers are thin shells of highly stain-resistant porcelain that are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth, creating a natural looking smile. An impression of your teeth will be taken and sent to a dental laboratory, where your porcelain veneers will be custom manufactured. In about one to two weeks, your veneers will be completed and ready to be attached, Dr. Scolnick will bond the veneers to your teeth, and you will leave our office with a gleaming new smile.

  6. Teeth Whitening Teeth become discolored by age, tobacco use, certain medications, and staining foods and beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine. Fortunately, in most cases our office can whiten teeth that have become stained. Using the latest technology, we can now perform a complete whitening procedure in a single office visit. Whether you are 18 or 81, a bright smile can boost your confidence and make you feel better about yourself.Using a GLO whitening system, the entire whitening process takes approximately 1 hour. Although not everyone can benefit from tooth whitening (it cannot lighten fillings or crowns, for example), most people with healthy teeth are potential candidates. The entire procedure is done in our office. Your upper and lower teeth are whitened at the same time. Your new smile can help you look younger, healthier, and more vibrant. The results may last for years, depending on your lifestyle.

  7. Oral Hygiene Oral hygiene should be a part of your daily life and includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes and flossing. In addition to your home care routine, you should schedule at least two cleanings with our office per year, which can include tooth cleaning, tooth polishing and, in some cases, debridement if excess tartar has accumulated on the teeth.

  8. Cosmetic Surgery Enhancing your smile can make a world of difference in how you see yourself and how others see you. A more youthful smile can takes years off of your appearance and improve your overall well being. Cosmetic dentistry includes everything from bleaching and bonding to crowns and veneers. As you work with Dr. Scolnick, he will develop a plan that will leave your smile healthier and more attractive.

  9. Porcelain Inlays and Onlays If you have large cavities or are looking to replace your old metal fillings, porcelain inlays and onlays offer a more natural look and feel. Porcelain inlays are custom manufactured to match the look and feel of your own teeth. Porcelain inlays are strong and durable. Inlays are not merely cosmetic. Once porcelain inlays are bonded they can prevent further tooth decay. Porcelain onlays are made similarly to porcelain inlays, but function more like a crown; they cover the top teeth that are too decayed to be fixed by a filling alone. Unlike a crown, porcelain onlays only cover the weakened part of the tooth and do not extend all the way down to the gum line.

  10. Anesthetic Fillings and Bonds Local anesthetic is used to numb the area of the mouth where Dr. Scolnick will remove any decaying or unsound portions of the tooth. Once the decay is cleared away, Dr. Scolnick will fill the tooth with a composite or amalgam filling. After the filling sets, we will check to make sure your bite is comfortably aligned. Bonding, while similar to a filling, allows us to enhance the aesthetics of a tooth in shape and color. Bonding is the most economical choice in cosmetic dentistry.
