Disseminate good practices (1) Training • Training workshops on different issues for different audiences • Community-based organisations and youth groups: e.g. needs assessment and programme planning, drug abuse prevention good practices, and COMING SOON! monitoring & evaluation • Sport coaches: how to include health promotion messages in sports training • Journalists: reporting on drug issues • Policy makers: Preventing ATS use among young people (welcome!) Why a programme on ATS prevention? • More people use ATS than heroin and cocaine together • Long term consequences of some ATS unknown • Treatment less available than for opiates and/ or cocaine • Some efforts on preventing the negative health consequences of ATS use, but very little on prevention Preventing ATS use among youth A UNODC Training Workshop
Activities so far • Identify good practices in ATS prevention with the assistance of academic researchers, practitioners and youth – December 2005 • Publish guidelines on ATS prevention for policy makers and NGOs – Both available in final draft, publication forthcoming • Develop and test training on ATS prevention for policy makers and NGOs – July 2006 in the Philippines and in India Preventing ATS use among youth A UNODC Training Workshop
Activities planned • Series of national/ regional training workshops for NGOs and/or policy makers > THIS IS ONE OF THEM!
