This page outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, the first Constitution of the United States. An illustrated hand represents major weaknesses, such as the lack of a strong central government, no national court system, and difficulties in passing laws. The chain symbolizes the strengths, including the Northwest Ordinance, which regulated the expansion of U.S. territories. The document also references Shays' Rebellion as a pivotal event that revealed the system's flaws. Reflect on how these factors influenced the creation of the current Constitution.
