  2. Barriers Cultural (boys are leaders, more skilled, …). Social (male dominated, mans’ Job..). Fairness (personal relations, income..). Family (obligations, responsibility..). Demands of the profession (travelling..).

  3. Barriers Female responds to male coaching better. Sports Management (resistance to change). Programs designed, did not consider female coaches unique needs. Lack of access to information that is critical to professional success. Low Budget allocated from NSF to female sports.

  4. What supports and empowers female community coaches Cultural (Parents, family… ). Ideological (same gender). Examples of Success. Media Coverage. JOC Support to engage more females in the Coach Education Programs. Set of roles to encourage SO assignee female coaches. Criteria of Coaches selection based on Qualification. Create your own opportunity.

  6. National Coaching Certification Program NCCP The program started in two streams: Facilitators Preparation(Train the Trainers). Coaches Education. Both stream includes 4 Levels

  7. Facilitators Preparation(Train the Trainers) Selection was made for 25 Individuals, 20 males, and 5 females. 14 LFs (10 male, 4 females) completed Level 4. 4 females (LFs) scored highest average.

  8. Coaches Education First implementation Oct, 2010 targeted National Teams Coaches. JOC requested from 30 NSF to nominate 2 coaches (no gender). JOC received 30 application (males). 28 attended the program, 19 completed.

  9. Coaches Education Second implementation Sep, 2011 targeted National Team Coaches. JOC requested from 26 NSF to nominate 1 female and 1 male coaches. JOC received 33 application; 26 males and 7 females. 18 attended the course, 13 male and 5 females(9:4 completed the program)

  10. Outcome The facilitators stream program completion were: Males: 10 out of 20 Female: 4 out of 5 In Coach Education Stream for 2 programs: Males: 28 out of 41 Female: 4 out of 5 1/3 Female LFS delivered 2 programs.

  11. Al-Ahli Club Women Handball Teams

  12. PLANNING Planning started in 2009 to re-establish Women Handball teams at Al-Ahli Club. Al-Ahli Club started Handball in Jordan in (1961) before establishing Jordan Handball federation(1965). 1994 was the last participation for the club in Women Handball competitions

  13. ESTABLISHING In Jul, 2009 team started to practice at the club: Players recruitment started by visiting 4 private schools, the massage was: “get free coaching by sending your school team member to join the Ahli Women Handball Team” 20 girls joined the team.

  14. Women Handball Teams More girls kept joining the team: Parents felt comfortable with the idea of same gender (woman) coach. Secure and safe environment. Transportation provided. Discipline and responsible behaviors were noticed of the players by family. Rewards and recognition. Medical care. Care and support were noticed from all levels of club administration.

  15. Athletes Development The women’s team now are the best Handball team in the kingdom. 9 players out of 18 Jordan Women’s National team members were selected from Al-Ahli Club. The club Register: 20 players for Women Team. 18 players for 94/95 16 players for 96/97 Still there is about 15 girls practicing but not registered Total of 69 girls are practicing Handball at the club now.

  16. Achievements The team won the 2009, 2010, 2011 Jordan Women National Handball League. Women Junior team won the 2010 Princes Somaia Cup, no Championship were held in 2009 or 2011 for women Junior teams .

  18. Suggested Strategic Planning Steps STEP-1 ACCESS & PARTICIPATION:- Increase number of female coaches(clubs, Universities, schools). STEP-2PROMOTION and MARKETING:- Create awareness about the importance of the role of female coach (society, culture). STEP-3 LOCAL FEMALE COMPETITION:- Development on schools, CLUBs levels.

  19. Suggested Strategic Planning Steps STEP-4 FEMALE PLAYERS DEVELOPMENT:- Establish female player development programme (future coaches). STEP-5 TEACHING AND CERTIFICATION:- Coaching Courses for females Coaches STEP-6NATIONAL TEAM:- Appointment of female coaches (experienced, qualified) on the national teams level
