  1. Search Coil Magnetometer (SCM)Mechanical & Electronic Design S. Yagitani – M. Hikishima G. Chanteur – C. Coillot – S. Ruocco Kanazawa Univ. CETP/CNRS/IPSL PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  2. Content • Sensor • Preamplifier • c) Whole SCM performances • d) EMC remarks • e) I/F : EWO & SORBET • f) Plan for 2006-2007 PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  3. Sensor : status • Status at end of 2005 : • BBM1 has been manufactured and tested at Kanazawa. • SCDB BBM1 sensor, magnetostriction occurred on magnetic core due to potting material used. • Current Status : • New SCDB BBM has been realized with a new potting material (more compressible) • Magnetostriction doesn’t occur. • Test with PA is in progress PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  4. SC-LF SC-DB • Sensor with potting : Mechanical design • Dimensions of sensors (both SC-LF & SC-DB sensor) are fixed : • Length =104mm, Diameter = 20mm *Mass should be saved using painting for electrostatic shielding. **Mass should be saved using a thinner potting PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  5. b) Preamplifier PA SC-DB • BBM preamplifiers have been manufactured and tested. • Tests are in progress. • Main functions are: • Amplification for LF & HF • Feedback • Filtering on LF & HF • Power supply regulation • Differential output • Management of calibration • signals PA SC-LF PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  6. SCDB BBM preamplifier performances : gain & noise PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  7. Power consumption of SCM Preamplifiers BBM Preamplifier abilities are compliant to AO PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  8. Gain Phase 1 Frequency [Hz] 1M c) Whole SCM SCM has been fully tested at Kanzawa University, LF-x (JAPAN)LF-y (JAPAN)LF-z (FRANCE)HF-z (FRANCE) PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  9. Transfer function measurement on new SCDB BBM Two frequency bands are measured simultaneously. A high frequency resonance above 600kHz remains… PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  10. d) EMC Remarks • Immunity to voltage ripple : • From JAXA-MMO-C005-1_EMC : • 1Vrms max from 0.1Hz to 2kHz (became 10mV from SWG ?) • 0.5Vrms from 2kHz to 500KHz • Tests have been realized on SCDB. • Preamplifier exhibits a 60dB rejection of voltage ripple. • PA + sensor exhibits a 20dB rejection above few hundred hertz. • PA of SC-LF should be less sensitive to voltage ripple (cf. discussion with Pr Nagano during Kanzawa workshop !) • => Need to have a more quiet power supply and less voltage ripple !!!! • => PA regulation could be improved… PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  11. Air gap in magnetic core : with or without ? • With an air gap, flux leakage are localized near to the gap, while it is distributed for a non air gap core. • Magnetic field radiated is 1000 higher with an air gap than without air gap !!! PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  12. d) I/F SCM Preamplifiers to EWO/SORBET SCM to EWO : grounded outputto differential input (TBC & Rin = ?) SCM to SORBET : grounded output to differential input (R_Sorbet=600 Ohms) TBC CAL-LF : generated from AM2P (or EWO :TBD) and routed through EWO (TBC) CAL-HF : generated from SORBET (Grounded on SORBET side and differential on SCM side ) PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  13. Some features of AM2P (or from EWO TBD) calibration signal : • Frequency sweep from 1.38Hz to 288Hz : should be sufficient to check integrity of SCM sensors (TBC). • AM2P CAL Signal should be routed through EWO : TBC • Switch ON of calibration signal should be managed from EWO. • Housekeeping for CAL status should be useful. • Waveform telemetry should be better during calibration. • Input of SCM Preamplifier should be differential (TBC) PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  14. e) Plan for 2006-2007 • Sensors : • Thermal cycling of BBM sensor (SCDB) : Summer 2006 • Preliminary vibration tests (SCDB) : Summer 2006 • Calibration (whole SCM+MLI) : August 2006 • End of BBM sensor design : beginning of 2007 • EM manufacturing could start : beginning of 2007 • Preamplifier SCM : • Electrical & mechanical design of BBM closest as possible to EM • PCB manufacturing : beginning of 2007 • “cube” (3D+) preamplifier manufacturing : september 2006 • Aluminium housing : beginning of 2007 EM manufacturing could start : beginning of 2007 PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco

  15. EGSE : plan for 2006-2007 • Sniffer => tri axis sensor to measure magnetic field radiated in a noisy environment : End of 2006 • Sensors are under manufacturing • Preamplifier is under manufacturing • Design of acquisition device is under progress • => Calibration signal “emulator” of SORBET & AM2P : • summer 2006. PWI Meeting 24 March 2006 – Kanazawa University – SCM Kanazawa Univ.: S. Yagitani-M.Hikishima – CETP : G. Chanteur–C. Coillot-S.Ruocco
