  4. Why Community Service? • To help other people • To feel good • To keep active

  5. To gain job experience • To do something fun • To enhance job resumes and college applications

  6. To meet interesting people • To make a difference in our community and the world • To Graduate!

  7. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

  8. Requirements Students are required to complete 40 hours of community service during their four years in high school. 100 hours of services results in membership in the Century Club.

  9. Some Suggestions for Service • Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America • Boys and Girls Clubs • YMCA and YWCA • Organized Youth Sports Organizations (volunteer coaches & umpires)

  10. Hospital Volunteer programs • Convalescent Home Volunteer programs • Elementary School Tutorial program • PTSA’s • Religious Organizations

  12. What won’t count…. • Court probation community service • Services provided for family members or private individuals (ex. Babysitting) • Hours performed during the school day when student should be in class. • Hours with a for-profit business

  13. Students may not receive academic credit or monetary compensation for community service activities. • Religious activities must be activities which extend beyond the church/synagogue. • Privately arranged tutoring hours must be overseen by a school or organization sponsor and are subject to approval.

  19. When do I start? NOW!!! 40 hours by graduation...or no graduation.

  20. Community Service Office • Stop by the Community Service Office in the counseling office to pick up forms and ask questions. Read your student booklet! Everything you need to know is in there.
