Fire Alarm System(FAS)? • This is also known as Fire Detection System. • The alarm system is not a single device but combination of various equipments i.e. smoke and heat detectors, horns / speakers, strobe lights in order to identify fires. • These are of different types and their installation varies from area to area.

  3. Types of Fire Alarm Systems… • Automatic Fire Alarm System: These devices play an important role in case of fire emergency. These are complicated as they are significant. As the name suggests, fire flames are detected in earlier stages and building occupants are get notified to be safe from fire. • Manual Fire Alarm System: This sort of traditional system is operated manually to control huge burnings. This is limited only to the pull stations.

Functions Performed by Fire Alarm System(FAS) • FAS consists an important component i.e. FACP(Fire Alarm Control Panel), which is capable of taking instantly. • Alert created by smoke and heat detectors is transmitted to multi-capability detectors using addressable switches. • Further, these switched tell the FACP about the location of fire. • FACP is generally inside the red box at safe place such as office and maintenance area.

Initiating Device… • The FACP has a special initiating device, which is responsible to set off the fire manually. • This is the last resort of detecting fire, when other sensors failed to identify the fire blazes. • The device should be of the best quality.
