Early Life • Laura Elizabeth Ingalls was born on February 7, 1867, in Pepin County, Wisconsin. • Her Parents were Charles and Caroline Ingalls. • She had three sisters Mary, Carrie, Grace. • She had a brother Freddy who only lived for a year. • She grew up traveling across the United States in a covered wagon with her family.

Adult Life • She became a school teacher in order to help her family out. • She married Almanzo Wilder on August 25, 1885. • She gave birth to Rose Wilder on December 5, 1886. • She also had a son in 1889, however he did not live long for them to name him. • Due to hard times the family moved from South Dakota to Missouri in 1894. • Laura died on February 10, 1957 (age 90) Laura and Almanzo - 1885

  5. “Little House” • Laura is best known for her Little House series • After encouragement from her daughter she started writing the series in 1932. • She completed the 8 volume series in 1943. • Each of the locations in her books now are set aside as a historical site where readers can go, see, and experience where she lived. • While talking about the series she said, “I had no idea I was writing history.”
