  2. LIMERICKS • Popular form of Irish lyric poetry. • Have a musical tone. • Named after Limerick, Ireland. • Often feature humorous or obscene themes. • Features set rhyme and meter schemes.

  3. RHYME SCHEME A - There was a young lady named Rose A -Who had a large wart on her nose. B - When she had it removed B -  Her appearance improved, A - But her glasses slipped down to her toes.

  4. RHYME SCHEME A - An elderly man called Keith A - Mislaid his set of false teeth - B -   They'd been laid on a chair, B - He'd forgot they were there, A -Sat down, and was bitten beneath.

  5. METER • Lines 1, 2, and 5: • 8 to 10 syllables. • Lines 3 and 4: • 5 to 7 syllables.

  6. LIMERICK SONG A Limerick is made of five lines, The first, second, and fifth always rhyme, Three and four rhyme and jive, Eight to ten – one, two, five; Five to seven in the third and fourth lines.
