  1. LEADING IN God’s House www.worshipharvest.org

  2. 1 Peter 5:1-2 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers… The elders are among you, not set apart or visiting occasionally.

  3. 1 Peter 5:1-2 Presbutérous oún en humín parakalœ¡ ho sumpresbúteros kaí mártus tœ¡n toú Christoú path¢mátœn, ho kaí t¢¡s melloús¢s apokalúptesthai dóx¢s koinœnós: 2 poimánate tó en humín poímnion toú theoú [episkopoúntes] m¢¡ anankastœ¡s allá hekousíœs katá theón, m¢dé aischrokerdœ¡s allá prothúmœs,

  4. Let’s eliminate the confusion: Presbutérous << Presbytery << Elder Episkopoúntes << Episkopos << Overseer << Bishop Poimánate << Poim¢n << Shepherd << Pastor

  5. Acts 20:28 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

  6. 1 Peter 5:2-3 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;

  7. It is God’s flock. No one owns a church. My church syndrome! The flock is among them (community). Elders are ordinary, hospitable people. No one should be “forced” by God or anyone into pastoral ministry Pastoral ministry is not a business idea for profit. No dishonest gain. Elders/Pastors/Bishops are not lords but servants of the flock.

  8. 1 Tim 3:1-7 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

  9. 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

  10. 1 Peter 5:4 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. There is a Chief Shepherd (Senior Pastor!), who is working with and cares for the elders. Elders will receive an unfading crown of glory from the Chief at His appearing.

  11. 1 Peter 5:5 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." Those who are led are encouraged to submit to pastoral leadership, but not only that but rather joint submission, one to another; in humility.

  12. Heb 13:7 7 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct. Heb 13:17 17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

  13. 1 Peter 5:6-7 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. God’s desire is to exalt us in due time. How we fulfill His desire is by humbling ourselves. The way up is down! Humility is casting all our cares on Him; living as carefree as possible. Worry is self worship!
