  1. for ruminants 2022 03

  2. WHO IS ANIMINE? • An international independent supplier of precision minerals • Based in France, in Annecy • 3 products: innovative sources of zinc, copper and manganese • Strong research and science expertise • Focus on quality, safety and environment: • Ruminants: increase of scientific research • Focus on dairy cows

  3. ANIMINE PORTFOLIO MONOVALENT COPPER POTENTIATED ZINC PURIFIED MANGANESE Unique sources with no equivalence on the market

  4. • Potentiated ZnO, obtained from a patented process • Unique physico-chemical properties compared to standard ZnO • The high Specific Surface Area and the high agglomerate size are the 2 main contributors of differentiation

  5. • The only monovalent source of copper in the market • Authorised as a feed additive in the EU in 2016

  6. • Source of MnO obtained from a unique process of purification High Grade Mn ore Secondary purification Primary purification Impurities Contaminants • The highest Mn concentration in the market: 75% vs 60% for standard MnO • Dust free powder particularly interesting to limit workers exposure to neurotoxicity of manganese

  7. COMMON PRODUCTS’ FEATURES

  8. HIGH CONCENTRATION IN METAL

  9. HIGH FLOWABILITY Reduced exposure for workers Homogeneous mixing Limited risk of cross contamination Optimal plant productivity With an homogeneous particle size distribution and a low dust content, Animine products are highly flowable

  10. HIGH SAFETY STANDARDS Heavy metals are far below the maximum levels authorised: Maximum content (mg/kg) : Other Mn sources* Other Zn sources* MnO* ZnO* Other Cu sources* Contaminants ManGrin® HiZox® CoRouge® Arsenic 30 - 50 100 30 100 30/50/100 10 5 30 Cadmium 10 - 30 30 10 30 10/30 5 2 10 Lead 100 200 100 400 100/200 50 20 200 *EU directive 2002/32 In addition, less product is needed to bring the same quantity of metal Animine’s products contribute less to the final feed contamination than standard sources

  11. HIGH STABILITY IN FEED Animine precision minerals are highly stable in premixes and in feed Less interactions with sensitive ingredients like vitamins CoRouge® & HiZox® are less aggressive for sensitive compounds like vitamins

  12. HIGH STABILITY IN THE RUMEN In-vitro test Incubation at 39°C, pH 7 2 replicates/treatment Dissolution kinetics in rumen juice Zn in the supernatant (µg/L) Cu in the supernanant (µg/L) Mn in the supernatant (µg/L) 6000 12000 20000 5000 10000 15000 4000 8000 3000 6000 10000 2000 4000 5000 1000 2000 0 0 0 0 20 40 60 0 20 Time (min) 40 60 0 20 40 60 Time (min) Time (min) Cu-chelate CuSO4 CoRouge® Zn-chelate ZnSO4 HiZox® Mn-chelate MnSO4 ManGrin® Animine sources are less quickly solubilized than sulphates & chelates, in rumen juice

  13. HIGH STABILITY IN THE RUMEN Rumen pH 6,5-7 Less toxic for bacteria in the rumen Small intestine High bioavailability Mn2+ Cu+ Zn2+ Abomasum pH 2-2,5 Less interactions with antagonists Solubilisation in the abomasum

  14. LESS TOXIC FOR BACTERIA: HIZOX® GAS TEST Hohenheim gas test Substrate: hay, barley and soybean meal Evaluation of total gas production within 24h ZnSO4 Positive effect of added Zn (until a certain zinc level) Rapidly solubilized zinc source are more toxic for rumen bacteria • •

  15. LESS INTERACTIONS: COPPER CASE Small margin between Cu deficiency and toxicity: Interactions in the rumen with antagonists (Mo, S, Fe) Large safety margin in Cu supply Multichannel supply of trace element RISK OF SECONDARY DEFICIENCIES RISK OF CHRONIC TOXICITY

  16. COPPER CASE: LIVER CU STATUS Liver copper status of dairy cows in the UK (mol/kg DM) (University of Nottingham) 70% of dairy cattle in the UK have high Cu status

  17. LESS INTERACTIONS: COPPER CASE CoRouge®: low solubility at rumen pH:  Less risk of secondary deficiency  No need for over supplementation  Less risk of toxicity Importance of precision minerals with: - the choice of the copper source - forages/water analyses to adapt copper supplementation

  18. 19. COMMON PRODUCTS’ FEATURES

  20. DOSE RESPONSE OF HIZOX® IN DAIRY COWS • Place: IRTA, Spain • Objective: evaluate the supplementation effect of HiZox® fed below the maximum level of zinc authorised in the EU (120 ppm zinc) • Animals: 60 Holstein cows (Lactation number : 1,9, Milk yield: 32 kg/day, DIM: 150) • Basal diet: Corn meal, alfalfa hay, grass silage, wheat silage, wheat meal, soybean meal • Treatments (12 weeks): Zn in the basal diet Zn from HiZox® Total Zn (mg/kg DM) 40 40 40 40 (mg/kg DM) 0 20 50 80 (mg/kg DM) 40 (NRC level) 60 90 120 (Max EU Zn level) NC T60 T90 T120 • Measurements: performance(feed intake, milk yield, body weight, feed efficiency), serum Zn concentration, mastitis incidence (number of infected quarters/total number of quarters)

  21. RESULTS – SERUM ZINC AT THE END OF THE STUDY 1,2 1,1 + 24% + 15% 1 0,9 0,8 Maxi* Mini* 0,7 0,6 0,5 0,4 0,3 NC 20 ppm 50 ppm 80 ppm From 50 mg Zn/kg DM, HiZox® supplementation increased serum zinc concentrations at the end of the 12 weeks supplementation TS 115 *Reference values, Monville, 2007

  22. RESULTS – MASTITIS INCIDENCE 20% - 7% 15% 10% - 16% 5% 0% NC 20 ppm 50 ppm 80 ppm HiZox® increasing dosage gradually reduced the mastitis incidence TS 115

  23. DOSE RESPONSE OF HIZOX® IN DAIRY COWS • As demonstrated in different zinc studies, zinc dosage higher than NRC did not increase performance • However, from 50 mg Zn/kg DM, HiZox® supplementation increased serum zinc concentrations and reduced mastitis incidence • Hizox is a highly bioavailable source of zinc enabling an efficient supplementation of cows below the maximum level authorized of zinc in the EU.
