  2. nZeh a collaborative research project bringing together stakeholders in the sectors of Building construction Sustainable development to design, implement and monitor a prototype affordable near net-zero energy residential home

  3. What is a net-zero energy home? An energy efficient, grid connected unit enabled to generate energy from renewable sources to compensate its own energy demand so that its net energy consumption is ZERO.

  4. Through the study of a new build prototype affordable home, the cost implications and potential for energy efficiency within the local context is better understood. nZeh will help advance the industry’s knowledge and assist with both new constructions, retrofitting of existing buildings and the achievement of near self-sufficiency at district level where possible. Estimated Potential Savings Anticipated electrical energy consumption in 2013 – 2,937,000 MWh, Enemalta Corporation, Electricity Generation Plan 2006-2015 Domestic sector responsible for 35% of energy consumption - 1,030,000 MWh If 10% of dwellings are zero energy – 10% saving Potential energy savings of 103,000 MWh per year
