  2. Resource Stewardship Monitoring • A Year in Review: • Completed training for 7 people – Spring 2005 • Complete about 15 blocks • Riparian and Biodiversity • Including S2-S6 streams, WTP, CWD • Completed quality control – Fall 2005

  3. Resource Stewardship Monitoring • What Worked: • Protocol • Well written, easy to follow and a great guide • Strategic Level Support • Provided guidance and funding • Training • Very appropriate, much preferred the training locally • Quality Control • Very helpful, good advice and guidance

  4. Resource Stewardship Monitoring • What did not work? • Sample Selection • Received in June 2005 (after training) • Blocks were selected based on latest approved date rather than date of disturbance • Operational (field level) support • Soils sample selection and data collection

  5. Resource Stewardship Monitoring • Objective Specific Issues: • Riparian • Checklist may not be appropriate for S5 and S6 streams • Biodiversity • Need to consider other values/objectives • Soils • May require alternative approaches (aerial photo vs no aerial photo) • Current system is complex, subjective and time consuming • Integrating the program • working/coordinating with other agencies and other protocol development

  6. Resource Stewardship Monitoring • Additional Comments • High priority requirements • Helicopter access • Digital hypsometer • Staff resources • Handheld data loggers • Questions • Relationship with other resource objectives or values • Long term objectives – how effective is it • Indicators – are we collecting the right indicator for the objective • SRMP and Orders – how are these being addressed
