  3. Ring Orientation • Using the clock method • Learning various positions with proper timing • Use of focal points

  4. Discus/Standing Throw • Heel to toe relationship • Proper Grip/fingertips over edge of discus • Proper preliminary swings • Discus edge is up on back swing • Discus edge levels out when facing the throw • Ring orientation/throw from 11 o’clock • Use the right leg

  5. Initiation of Standing Throw • Ring orientation/the clock system • Throw begins from 11 o’clock • Use rhythmic start not static start • Flex right leg/left arm back • Bridged back • Proper focal points beyond circle • Track eyes horizontally

  6. Long path of discus Finish feet/hip/shoulder rotation Right knee/left arm work as unit Proper orbit of discus/42 degrees Stay on feet Finish Techniques/Standing Throw

Entry • Set your stance/athletic position • Feet slightly wider than shoulder width/toes slightly pointed out • 1 to 3 preliminary swings for rhythm • Proper focal points • Relaxed carry of the discus/hinge • Pivot around left foot – do not cut orbit length short (42 degrees) • Control the pivot action of the left foot

  8. Air Pivot • Right knee to the middle • Look down the left sector • Right hip/discus raises slightly • Rotate hips and release shoulders to 3 o’clock • Right foot rotates from 2 o’clock • Upon left foot contact, shoulders will rotate to 11 o’clock

  9. Middle to Front of Circle • Right foot/left arm work as a unit – rotate • Stay off the heel – use ball of foot • Track eyes horizontally • Active left side – back slapping arm motion • Trigger point/release over left leg • Face your throw

  10. Exchange • Naturally exchange feet with proper timing • Do whatever you can to stay in the ring • It helps to lower center of mass/bend knees • DO NOT watch the discus!
