BackgroundInformation • Our herb is Oregano • The scientific name for Oregano is Origanum vulgar. • Oregano is native to the warmer of Eurasia and the Mediterranean region. • thymol and carvacvol are Oregano’s organic compounds the function of them is insecticide, the organic compunds help the plant by keeping the bugs away, these are adaptations. • Oregano is commonly used in pizzas and can be used as a seasoning for meat. • Oregano contains many organic compounds which give it its unique taste/flavor. F lower leaves stem roots

  4. General plant information • 3 factors that can effect Oregano are: -lack of water/overdose of water -lack of sunlight/to much sunlight -lack of nutrients

More information • The function of photosynthesis is to produce sugar for the plant. • the chemical reaction for photosynthesis • Co2+h2o+radiant energy= o2 = c6h12o2 • Chloroplasts is responsible for photosynthesis • The xylem is important because it transports nutrients and water to all parts of the plant

Procedures • Picked out seeds • Got our materials • Placed cotton at the bottom of our cups • Place dirt into cups • Dug little holes into the dirt • Placed seeds in dirt • Watered plants • Labeled cups • Placed one cup in the dark • Placed the second cup in the dark • Repeated watering and checking plants mostly everyday

  7. Observations • The plant in the light did not grow at all. • Our roots grew in the soil, this is called: negative phototropism. • Our dark plant grew more than our light plant, this was unusual.

  8. Conclusion • Are hypothesis was that the plant in the light would grow faster. This was wrong since the dark plant grew larger. • Since are light plant didn’t grow at all I think this investigation should be longer so it can have time to grow.
