  3. Hunger • Define hunger? • How does it make you feel? • How would you feel if you did not know when you would be fed next? • What action would you take to end your own hunger?

  5. Hunger in the USA ~40M‘food insecure’ or‘hungry’ #1 at risk-Kids of single, poor women Primary cause of domestic hunger is poverty ‘Poor’ in US income below Fed poverty guideline

  6. Federal Poverty Guideline • Individual ~ $11,670 • Family of 4 ~ $23,850 2 adults+ 2 kids Do you think this is poor? If you were earning twice this amount would you still be poor? (reside in Bay Area)

  7. Minimum Wage • The minimum hourly wage allowed by the Federal Government • Fed min. wage = $7.25/hr

  8. Does earning minimum wage keep you out of poverty? • Calif min. wage = $8.00/hr (SJ $10.15/hr) • Full time Calif. minimum wage = $16,640 • Remember….. Federal Poverty level guideline single= $11,670 family= $23,850
