  3. What the Forum is • A Group of people representing Bowen in the UK • Independent Chair • Currently includes reps from member organisations BTER, BAUK, BPA • Working with Prince of Wales Foundation for Integrated Health (POWFIH) Bowen Forum

  4. Independent Chair • Not involved with any aspect of Bowen • Impartial, objective • Long experience in CAM • Experience of regulation development • Experience of working with groups • Expertise in NHS and integration/policy/guidelines etc. Bowen Forum

  5. Why The Forum exists • Established to work on the formation of a single voluntary, self-regulating UK register of professional Bowen therapists • partly as the result of the recommendations in The House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology Sixth Report 2000 Bowen Forum

  6. The role of the Forum • The Forum will define, promote and continually evaluate the elements and standards of best practice of Bowen. • The Forum will have a role in supporting research into the therapeutic effects of Bowen and advancing public knowledge and awareness of Bowen. Bowen Forum

The Forum needs to establish: • A common code of Ethics • Criteria and procedures for the registration of Bowen therapists • Accreditation processes to accredit courses in the various Bowen and Bowen-related therapies • A Framework/Policy to investigate incidents and complaints in a fair and timely way. Bowen Forum

  8. VSR - WHY??????? • To protect the public by ensuring therapists provide efficient, effective and safe practice • To protect and support all Bowen therapists by ensuring the highest standards of training and continuing professional development (CPD) Bowen Forum

  9. VSR - HOW ?????? • Consult as widely as possible • Collect and consider the views, opinions and expertise of all Bowen therapists To ensure that the decisions are based on consensus. Bowen Forum

VSR -does this matter to YOU? • YES, YES, YES! • To achieve this we need your participation and co-operation • Tell us what you think – share your thoughts! • Tell us what you want to happen – share your hopes & dreams • You have a choice – be directly or indirectly involved. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY! Bowen Forum

  11. Does any of this worry you? • What are your concerns? • Can you be specific? • What if someone isn’t a member of an organisation? • What will it cost? • I work part time – what about me? Bowen Forum

  12. Is This YOU ???! • Nobody will listen to me. • How can one view make a difference? • It will be all talk and no action. • It won’t affect me. • Somebody else will do it. I don’t need to offer. Bowen Forum

  13. EVERYONE MATTERS! • Every view expressed is important. • Everyone will have the chance to say what they think • You can make a difference. • VSR will affect everyone practising Bowen. Bowen Forum
