The Water sport • Water sport is an established sport that is played in the water between two teams. • Normally, the game is made of up of four quarters and the competing teams play against each other trying to score a goal into the others goal post. • Indefinitely, the triumphant team is the one with most of the goals. • A team consists of six players and one goal keeper, with another six as substitutes. • The game generally requires a 7 feet deep pool in which many water polo tournamentsare held. https://sfanow.in

History of Water sport • Initially, before it was recognised as a sport, water polo was merely a swimming skill. • It began in 19th century England and Scotland as a means of demonstrating your strength in swimming. • Men’s team was the first official team to enter the big leagues, with the first water sport Olympics game was played in 1900’s. • Before this, the sport was played in fairs and festivals around England. • The sport had grown over time as water polo competitions are now being held all around the world. https://sfanow.in

The Sport Positions • As mentioned earlier, a water polo tournament consists of seven played on each team, one being the goalkeeper. • Six players are supposed to play out one player which is the goal keeper of the opposing team. • Water polo is different to other sports as there are no fixed positions and players fill out all the necessary positions themselves through the game. • The positions include; center forward, center back, 2 wing players and 2 drivers. • Members are trained as offence and defence player and come off the bench as utility players. https://sfanow.in

The Sport Rules • The rules of this game are simple and are called play, procedure, equipment and officiating. • These rules apply to all water polo competitions throughout the world most commonly, however slight changes may appear regionally. • The sport is governed by many agencies such as: • The international governing organisation for rules – FINA ( International Swimming Federation) • The rules for collegiate matches in the US – NCAA (National collegiate athletic association) • Rules at the Olympics – IOC (International Olympics committee) https://sfanow.in

  6. The Sport Equipment • Water polo tournaments usually require little equipment. The following are usually used: • Ball – the water polo ball is of a similar size to a football and if made out of waterproof material allowing it to float and textured to give players proper grip. • Caps – the purpose of the cap is to protect the players head and ears as well as to make the players visible in the water; goalkeepers wear different colours to the rest of the players. • Goals – 2 goals are needs and can be put on floaters. • Swimwear – proper swimwear is issued for safety and comfort of the players. https://sfanow.in
