Use these facilitation slides to conduct a video session for students. The session aims to help students understand how to present their ideas visually, using storyboards and video production. Works best for groups of 3-6 students. Slides in English only.

  1. Information for teachers You can use these slides to facilitate your own video session for students. Just copy-paste the slides you need. Slides are in English only. The Tell it with a Video -session is a good standalone exercise, and usually requires a whole lecture. The session helps students understand what are the most important aspects of their idea and how to present those visually. Works best for groups of 3-6 students. Each group will need to be provided with A3-papers and markers. Timetable of the assignment • What is a storyboard and how to make one: 20 min • Example video – what’s needed for a simple scene: 10 min • Making your own storyboard and present them to the class: 20 min • Shoot and edit your own video according to the storyboard and upload it: 1 h 30 min • Presentations and discussion: 5 min / group

What is a storyboard? • Storyboard is basically a script made out of pictures – it looks a bit like a comic strip • Conveys what happens in a video, from the beginning to the end • Can include notes about what’s happening in each frame • Helps to understand • How many actors are needed • What kinds of locations are needed • What props, sets, outfits etc. are needed • How long the video will be • What are the most important things to show in the video

Your turn: Turn your idea into a video • Decide what the most important thing about your idea is and how to show it visually • Draw a storyboard • Shoot the video according to the storyboard • Use someone’s phone to do the shooting if you don’t have a camera • Don’t shoot 4K even if possible, takes a long time to render • Edit the video • You can use a free software such as iMovie, Windows Movie Maker or Quik • Prepare to show the video to the rest of the class • Upload your video to: [link to YouTube channel]
