The United Nations (UN) was first named by FDR in a 1942 speech against the Axis Powers and officially came into existence in June 1945, following the signing of the UN Charter by 50 nations in San Francisco. The UN aims to maintain international peace and security, foster friendly relations among nations, promote equal rights, and facilitate cooperation on human rights. Key components include the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, International Monetary Fund, World Health Organization, and the International Court of Justice.
