  2. A Few Thing About Westwood • Is a 30MW culm fired CFB Boiler, construction completed in 1987. • There 19 staff employees and 13 contractors onsite as full-time positions • Is owned by Integrys Energy Services, Inc. headquartered in DePere, WI.

  3. A Few Thing About Westwood • The Westwood site was acquired by CRSS Sirrine in the mid-1980’s who constructed the Westwood Generating Station. When the generating station was built, the site encompassed 250 acres of which 150 acres were covered with abandoned supplies of refuse and silt and 100 acres were considered to be abandoned mine land consisting of disturbed areas, an empty silt dam, and open strip mining pits. • At the time the Westwood Generating Station started operation it was estimated that 3,670,000 cu. yd. (4,404,000 tons) of refuse were contained in the Westwood Refuse Bank which covered 31 acres, reached over 100 feet in height, and was visible from Interstate 81.

  4. A Few Thing About Westwood • Also, an abandoned silt dam and other smaller refuse banks contained 2,153,225 cu. yd. (2,583,870 tons) of silt and refuse. In addition to the Westwood property, • CRSS Sirrine acquired the Good Spring property which is located approximately two miles northwest of the Westwood site. This property consists of two parcels of abandoned mine land, which encompass 67 acres and contain 1,533,800 cu. yd. (1,863,570 tons) of refuse. • The Westwood Generating Station was sold to CinCap VI in late 1999 who subsequently sold the plant to WPS Power Development, Inc. (Now Integrys) in mid 2001. WPS has continued operation of the generating station to the present time.

  5. A Few Thing About Westwood • The environmental benefits of the Westwood Generating Station which have been or will be accomplished at no cost to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania include the following: • Rehabilitation of 4,100 linear feet of Lower Rausch Creek through the Westwood property.  Developed 11 acres of abandoned mine land for construction of the Westwood Generating Station.  Currently removed and utilized as fuel 3,670,000 cu. yds. (4,404,000 tons) of refuse from the Westwood refuse bank.

  6. A Few Things About Westwood  Currently filled in and reclaimed to approximate original contour approximately 7.5 acres of abandoned strip mining pits through the beneficial use of 50,000 cu. yds. (60,000 tons) of ash.  Currently filled in and reclaimed a 31 acre abandoned silt dam through permitted disposal of 1,000,000 cu. yds. (1,200,000 tons) of ash.  Pumps, treats, and utilizes millions of gallons of acid mine pool water every year which is returned to the environment as clean water and steam.

  7. A Few Things About Westwood •  Currently removed as fuel 1,300,000 cu. yds. (1,560,000 tons) of refuse and silt from the Westwood silt dam and reclaimed 30 acres of the silt dam through beneficial use 1,911,275 cu. yd. (2,293,530 tons) of ash. •  Currently removed and utilized as fuel 220,000 cu. yd. (264,000 tons) of refuse and reclaimed 30 acres of abandoned mine land within the Westwood property. •  Upon completion of fuel supply and ash placement (i.e., mining/beneficial use of coal ash) activities at the Westwood and Good Spring properties, 7,357,025 cu. yds. (8,828,430 tons) of silt/refuse will have been recovered, 5,608,026 cu. yds. (6,729,631 tons) of coal ash will have been beneficially used for mine land reclamation and 320 acres of abandoned mine land will have been reclaimed.
