  1. “The Good Confession,”I Timothy 6:12-13: • V. 12. “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. • V. 13. “I urge you in the sight of God Who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus Who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate.

  2. “The Good Confession,” I Timothy 6:14,15 • V. 14. “that you will keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing.” • V. 15. “which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”

  3. “Confess,” a verb from homologeo (Greek) • “To declare, admit,” Vine. John 1:20; Act 24:14; Hebrews 11:13. • “To confess by way of admitting oneself guilty of what one is accused of,” I John 1:9. • “To declare openly by way of speaking out freely, such confession being the result of deep conviction and faith,” Matthew 10:32; John 9:22; 12:43; I Tim. 6:12; I John 4:15 • Vine on Matt. 10:32: This “conveys the thought of confessing allegiance to Christ as one’s Master and Lord.”

  4. “Confession,”A Noun, from homologia (Gk) • Denotes “confession by acknowledgement of the truth,” Vine. • I Timothy 6:12-13. • Hebrews 3:1. “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, (confession, NKJV) Christ Jesus.” • Hebrews 4:14. “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession (“confession, “ NKJV) cf. Hebrews 10:23.

A Closer Look at Confession: • A Condition of Salvation, Romans 10:9-10. • A Declaration of Faith, Acts 8:36-37. • It demands more than simply a private conviction, John 9:22; 12:42. • It demands more than simply a personal conviction, Matthew 10:32-33. • It is the Expression of the Conviction of the heart, Romans 10:9-10.

A Closer Look at Confession (con’t). • It may be public in nature, John 9:22; 12:42. • It puts one under obligation to obey Christ in all things, Luke 6:46. • It must be seen in the obedience which follows, Hebrews 4:14; 10:23. • It is something all men must do, Romans 10:9-10. • It is something all men will do, Phil. 2:9-11!

Alien Sinners Confess Faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God! • This is the confession the eunuch made in Acts 8:36-37. • The confession Peter made, Matthew 16:16. • The confession God made, Matt. 3:17; 17:5. • The confession Martha made, John 11:27. • The confession Jesus made before Pilate, I Timothy 6:13; John 19:7. • It cost Jesus His life, Matthew 26:63-66! • It cost Antipas his life, Revelation 2:13! -- It could cost you your life!

  8. Erring Children of GodConfess their Sins: • Privately to God, if the sin is private, I John 1:9. • Individually, to the person sinned against, Matthew 5:23. • Publicly if the sin is of a public nature, Matthew 18:15-17; James 5:16.

  9. We Confess Jesus Christ, Matthew 10:32. He is: • The Christ, the Son of the living God, Matthew 16:16. • Our Mediator, I Timothy 2:5. • The Captain of our Salvation, Hebrews 2:10. • Our High Priest, Hebrews 4:14-15. • The Author of Eternal life, Hebrews 5:8-9. • The Author and Finisher of our faith, Hebrews 12:3.

Jesus, Whom We Confess,Is: (continued) • Our Advocate with the Father, I John 2:1. • The Alpha and the Omega, Revelation 1:10. • The Lord of Lords, Revelation 17:14. • The King of Kings, Revelation 17:14. • “The Hub of the Bible,” Luke 24:44. • To make “the good confession” is the confess the central truth of the Bible. • When Peter confessed the bedrock truth about Christ, Jesus promised to build His church, Matthew 16:18.

I Timothy 6:12-14Timothy made “the good confession” • It was public in nature – “before many witnesses.” • It was Pre-requisite to “eternal life.” • It obligated Timothy to live a life consistent with that confession, I Timothy 6:11,12,14. • Confession therefore is not a one time for all time event. It is made in point of time, but its effects must be evident for the rest of our lives. And its benefitslast throughout eternity!

  12. God’s Plan for “Alien Sinners:” • Hear the Gospel, Romans 10:17. • Believe the Gospel, Mark 16:15-16. • Repent of Sins, Acts 17:30. • Confess faith in Jesus as the Son of God, Acts 8:36-37 (make “the good confession”). • Be Baptized “for the remission of sins,” Acts 2:38. • Question: Are you ready to confess Jesus Christ as the Son of God and put Him on in Baptism?
