  2. Geography / Climate • Most of the country experiences three basic seasons: hot (March-May), rainy (June-October), and cool (November-February). • Floods, droughts, and earthquakes are common.

  3. The Salvation Army India South Eastern Territory • The India South Eastern Territory is one of the six Salvation Army territories in the country of India. The Tamil-speaking part of the Southern India Territory became this separate territory in 1970 as the Army experienced rapid growth. • The Gospel is preached in English, Malayalam, and Tamil.

  4. The Salvation Army India South Eastern Territory There are 310 corps (centers for worship and service) with a total of • Officers (pastors): 684 • Sr. Soldiers (adult members): 48,960 • Jr. Soldiers (members age 7-13): 4,855

  5. How is The Salvation Army ministering? • Hospital • HIV/AIDS care • Micro-credit program • Child health program • Schools • Children’s homes • Vocational training

  6. Interesting Facts • The entire country of India is geographically one-third the size of the United States, and the country has 1.2 billion residents. • A faith goal system has led to many corps enrolling new soldiers and becoming financially self-supporting.

  7. Strengths • The work of The Salvation Army is growing, especially in the Erode and Salem districts. • Despite natural disasters and difficult conditions for many people, the territory is moving forward with God’s blessing.

  8. Challenges • Finances are needed to keep Salvation Army programs running. With the expansion of The Salvation Army in the Erode and Salem districts, resources are needed to build new Salvation Army halls (corps). • The lives of many in this territory have been affected by recent natural disasters.

  9. How does my World Services gift help? • Construction of Prayer Halls – There is a need for additional prayer halls (corps buildings) as the number of attendees continues to increase. • Training College Repairs – The 25 year old building has many cracks and a damaged roof. Cadets will be able to focus on their studies more when the building has been repaired.

  10. How are the India South Eastern and USA Central Territories partnering? • Prayer • Personnel Visits • 2012 – Lt. Colonels Jeff and Dorothy Smith attended a conference in the ISE Territory • 2013 Summer & Global Mission Teams visited the ISE Territory

Partnering in Prayer Please join the India South Eastern Territory in praying for the following requests: • The 8 Child Development Centers in the ISE Territory benefit nearly 2,000 children each year. Pray for this program as children are provided support for their studies. • Pray for the spiritual revival of the ISE young people. • The Territorial Women’s Department focuses on spiritual development and teaching practical skills. Please keep them in your prayers.
