General Routines • Pupils are now expected to enter and leave school unaccompanied. • Pupils only bring “zippys/book bags” and a water bottle into the classroom. • Coats and lunchboxes remain in cloakroom. • All dinner money must be sent in on Monday in a named envelope. • Please send an note after an absence.
Aims for your child • To be happy and safe. • To work to their highest potential. • To be proud of their work. • To have a high self esteem. • To become an independent worker. • To enjoy school.
Maths Concentrate on 100 square Mental maths (+/_) Fractions ½,1/3,1/4 Time ( 4 major times) Measurement- using paces,cubes and spans leading to introduction of metre. Reading and constructing different types of graphs. Number stories/facts Place value Basic tens and units Early multiplication –grouping and sharing Literacy Capital letters/full stops Of/off our/are to/too/two Answering in sentences 5W approach to story writing. Question words Extension of sight vocabulary Development of listening skills-1 stage to 3 stage P3 Curriculum
Linguistic Phonics • The aim of Linguistic Phonics is that children understand the relationship between their spoken language and the written word. • Each week the target sound will be the same for everyone and this pattern of sounds is repeated every year. • There will be 4 short interactive lessons per week in which the children explore the different representations of target sounds through an investigative approach.
Helping your child spell. • Look at the word. • Say the word • Cover the word. • Write the word • Check the word.
Visual approach to spelling. • Some children find letter sounds of no help. The visual approaches assist these children to learn spellings. • Break the word up into 2 or 3 chunks eg • Colour first part red and second part blue. • b oa thome toe no • Cut the pieces out and get you child to rearrange them.
Homework • Spellings/tables Monday – Wednesday. Revise all on Thursday. • 1 English/Research and 1 Maths sheet per week • Homework book must be handed in on Thursday • Homeworks must be of the highest standard • Unacceptable homework will be returned to be redone. • All homework must be signed.
Reading • Reading – Reading books are introduced on Monday and prepared in class throughout the week. • An easy read is also sent home – this is the children’s free choice. • Please do not feel under pressure to hear both books each night – let your child choose which book to read. • Please sign the reading record each time you hear reading.
Helping you child to read. • What is in the picture that starts with that letter/sound? • What is the starting sound? • What is the ending sound? • What word would make sense in this sentence?

How can I help my child? • If possible, hear reading every night. • Go over spellings/tables each night. • Insist on your child’s best work when completing homework. • Keep in close contact with teacher. • Make sure your child has the following items every day: • Pencils • Colouring pencils • Gluestick • rubber
Class Behaviour Code • Work quietly • Listen to the teacher • Always do your best work • Keep my desk area tidy • Keep my cloakroom area tidy • Do not run in the classroom or school • Always put your hand up to ask a question • Have good manners
