  1. THE OLYMPIC TORCH

  2. THE OLYMPICS The fire for the cauldron is lit using a parabolic mirror. This type of mirror is shaped so that it concentrates the sun’s rays and a fire starts. These women are dressed in traditional Greek gowns.

  3. We live in Canada in North America.. Greece is in Europe on the other side of the world. The flame is lit in Greece and brought to Canada. The torch tradition started in Greece before 1928 when a man stole fire from the Greek God, Zeus. You can see Greece on this map of the world. It is the red country.

  4. The torch will be carried all around Canada. It will travel 14,000 kilometers. It will begin its journey in British Columbia and will end its journey in Vancouver where a gigantic cauldron will be lit.

  5. In Barcelona in 1992 Antonio Rebollo, an archer at the Olympics was to light the cauldron with his flaming arrow. (He was actually told to miss because some people thought he might hit it into the stands. )

  6. When the Olympics are finished the Paralympics begin. Some people with special needs have lit the cauldron.

  7. I WISH I COULD GO… It would be fun to go to the Olympics. If I went I would want to go with my mom and dad. Some of the tickets for the opening ceremonies cost as much as $5,500.00. Wow!! I would make sure I took my camera.
