  3. Marriage And Family - 1st wife, Mary Newman, married Francis Drake in 1569 • Mary Newman died 12 years later • His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Sydenham • No children

  4. Sailing Career • At age 23 Drake went out for his first voyage to the New Land • By 9 August 1572 he returned to Plymouth • He sailed from England • He sailed 3 voyages
