  2. Setting • The setting mainly takes place in Anjali’s family roti shop (restaurant) called Island Spice in Richmond Hill, Manhattan.

  3. Characters • Anjali is a 13 year old Trinidadian girl who is passionate about food. She is a talentedgirl and is determined to become the youngest Food Network Chef. She has black curly, long hair and brown eyes. Deema is Anjali’s grandmother she is very loving and encouraging. She is tall, slender and stylish. She has light skin and green eyes.

  4. Conflict • Anjali has an audition for a Food Network show called Super Chef Kids, but the Stuyvesant Entrance Exam that her dad really wants her to take is the same day. She doesn’t know which to choose and she is worried.

  5. Resolution • The resolution to this book is that Anjali picks the audition but she told her dad and he won’t let her go. Anjali sneaks out of the house and goes to the audition. When her dad asked her if she passed the Stuyvesant exam she told him that she went to the audition. She went to the final audition but she didn’t make the show. Her family was still proud of her for trying.

  6. Opinion • I loved the book and thought that it was very interesting. I liked how it was about cooking and being on Food Network. There was also recipes in the book of what Anjali makes. I would tell all my friends to read this book because I know they would love it.

  9. Summary • This book is about a 13 year old Trinidad girl named Anjali. Her dream is to become a Food Network chef by the age of fifteen. She finally gets a chance to audition for Food Network. There is one problem though, the audition is the same day as the Stuyvesant Exam. Her dad really wants her to take the exam but she rather go to the audition. Anjali told her dad but he said she is taking the Stuyvesant exam and that is final. She goes to the audition without permission and finds herself in big trouble when she gets home. Her dad forgives her because he understood she was just trying to follow her dreams. She didn’t make the final audition but her family was still proud of her for trying.
