  1. Whose flag is this? • What do the symbols on this flag mean? • What have they got to do with Peter ?

  2. To explain what “the keys of the kingdom” are • To explain the role of Bishops • To evaluate the role of Bishops as a shepherds.

  3. Popes and Bishops Look up Matthew 16:15-19 .Write out verse 19 only. Explain what sort of things Peter’s keys “bind” or “loose”/ prohibit or allow. Give an example. ***What else do you think Peter’s keys “unlock”?

  4. 1. What sort of things can Peter’s keys unlock ? Break the code for find out. • Draw a set of cross keys, like the ones that Jesus gave Peter. • Around your keys label the things that Peter’s keys give access to(from your code). • Explain what these things unlock eg forgiveness unlocks us from sin. **Which 2 of these do you think is the most important and why ?

  5. Gives access to forgiveness • The sacraments of the Church: gives access to sharing God’s life • Gives access to Eternal life • Give access to knowledge of who God is • Gives access to a community of saints

  6. The Bishops Peter passed on his keys to other disciples – these are the Bishops. Their job is to make sure people have access to God’s life through the sacraments and right teaching. A Bishop’s job is also to oversee Christian communities , making sure everyone is cared for and the Christian faith is taught correctly. Bishops are called Shepherds of the Church. They carry a shepherd’s staff (a crozier) to show this. Draw a Bishop. Label his hat “mitre” and staff “crozier”. List 4 things the job of a Bishop involves. ***How could a Bishop be a good shepherd ? What should he do ?
