  1. HPC Variable Vane Synchronize-ring Job Ticket for Senior Design Project Sponsoring Organization: Pratt & Whitney: Cold Section Engineering (CSE) CSMC Project Name: Sync Ring-Actuation Load Verification for Canted Pin Design Contact: Vito Moreno (vito.moreno@pw.utc.com ) Logan Do (logan.do@pw.utc.com); Don Hill (donald.a.hill@pw.utc.com) Description: Cold Section Engineering has an opportunity for a senior design project at UCONN, is to build and test existing design of the actuation system that has a sync-ring with multiple styles of vane arm configuration. (See note 3) Student(s) is/are required to design, build and test a simple rig that is capable to actuate a full-scale sync-ring with reaction loads that induce by vane arms (twisting & bending). The purpose of this test is to quantify required-load to actuate the system +/-45˚ for the Canted Pin Vs. Straight Pin design. Instrumentation (strain gage, load cell, etc..) is needed to measure loads and deflections. Deliverables: • Designs (UG Models) of an actuation rig • Design Review for the rig (informal) • Procurement raw materials • Build and Test • Test Report Material: Various Applications: Support NGPF engine programs in verifying load reduction Other inputs identified during the project not mentioned otherwise; Costs, UG Models Other considerations: US Citizens required Pratt & Whitney Proprietary
