Reaction Rates

Reaction rates are fundamental to both everyday life and industrial processes. Various factors, such as temperature, concentration, and catalysts, influence these rates, explained by collision theory. Energy alterations during reactions, including exothermic and endothermic processes, play a crucial role in these dynamics. Humans harness this knowledge in various ways, from food preservation techniques to manufacturing, effectively controlling natural laws for beneficial outcomes. Understanding these concepts empowers us to innovate, reflecting the profound impact of chemistry on human ingenuity.

Presentation Transcript

  1. Reaction Rates

  2. Significant Concepts • What factors affect the rate of reaction and what theory explains this? • What happens to energy during reactions? • How can humans use this to help them in day to day life and what are the consequences of this use?

  3. AOI Guiding Question • Human Ingenuity • How have humans used their knowledge of chemistry to overcome or control the laws of nature and is this a good thing?

  4. Rates of reactions are just as important to you as they are to industrial and chemical engineers

  5. Industrial and chemical engineers are not satisfied with just turning one substance into another. The want to obtain products as rapidly , easily and cheaply as possible. To do this they must understand how chemical reactions work!
