  1. Session 2 - The Christian God or the Mormon gods? In this session we will look at the biggest difference between the Christian, and Mormon faith The Doctrine of God Romans 1:22-23 “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.”

In this session we will look at many quotes from Mormon authorities, in addition to many Bible verses When talking with a Mormon missionary or friend, this should always be the first point of discussion Don’t go off on racism, polygamy, and other politically (and Biblically) incorrect teachings of the Mormon church, start with the foundation, who is God? Get them to admit that God cannot change his mind, that God’s word is eternally true, and that if the oldest revelation that we have (the Bible) says something is true, no new revelation can contradict it and still be from God

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… (On a planet named Kolob) There was a council to decide how everything on earth would play out One group of people wanted the “Jesus plan”, where Jesus would come and redeem us all. However others (Lucifer) wanted to be the redeemer and was not a fan of the “Jesus plan”

  4. Some of the spirits sided with the “Jesus plan” and some sided with Lucifer, and some remained neutral and would not take a side. After all was said and done, Jehovah God decided to go along with the “Jesus plan” and Satan left heaven because he didn’t agree with it. Where does Polygamy come in? Well, God lives on a distant planet named Kolob, and he has physical relations with all his wives, and they produce spirit babies that then need bodies here on earth.

  5. Is God an exalted man made of flesh and bone? "The Father is a glorified, perfected, resurrected, exalted man who worked out his salvation by obedience to the same laws he has given to us so that we may do the same," (Bruce R. McConkie, A New Witness for the Articles of Faith, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Company, 1985, p. 64). According to Doctrine and Covenants 130:22, "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's."

  6. What verses do Mormon’s claim as evidence? Genesis 1:27-28: “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Is this talking about he body of Adam and Eve? Or just their spirits? In order to understand this passage you have to interpret scripture in light of other scripture

Mormons claim God is described in ways that only make sense if he has a physical body God speaking (e.g. Genesis 1:3) God seeing (Genesis 1:4) God walking (Genesis 3:8) He sets His face against evil (Leviticus 20:6) "I stretch out my hand against Egypt.“ (Exodus 7:5) "you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm" (Psalm 89:10b) Mormon’s claim they are the ones taking the Bible literally, not Christians.

  8. If that’s the definition of literal, than we don’t want to take the Bible literal, we want to take it serious. Psalm 91:4: “He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” Is God a chicken? John 10:9: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” We understand the Bible uses figures of speech in areas to help us understand a point that is being made

  9. What does the Bible say? Numbers 23:19: “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? “But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, why are ye troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” - Luke 24:37

  10. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” - John 4:24 “And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” - Matthew 16:17 The Bible says God has always been God “Even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God” - Psalms 90:2B “Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.” – Psalms 93:2

  11. Wilford Woodruff, the fourth President, said God was increasing in knowledge. "If there were a point where a man in his progression could not proceed any further, the very idea would throw a gloom over every intelligent and reflecting mind.  God himself is increasing in knowledge, power and dominion, and will do so, worlds without end.  It is just so with us." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 120). Psalm 147:5: “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”

  12. Is Jesus a man working his way to Godhood? "This Holy Man, the Father of us all, who reigns supreme and is a saved being , ordained and established a plan of salvation so that his Firstborn and all his spirit children might advance and progress, become like him, have all power, know all things, live in the family unit, having eternal increase of their own or in other words, that they might gain for themselves immortality and eternal life," (A New Witness, p. 704). According to the Mormon Church Jesus has not always been God, and is working his way up to becoming God. The Bible says otherwise

John 1:1-2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” Colossians 1:16-17 “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” The Bible clearly teaches Jesus is and was God

  14. How many God’s are there? Joseph Smith: "Hence, the doctrine of a plurality of Gods is as prominent in the Bible as any other doctrine. It is all over the face of the Bible . . . Paul says there are Gods many and Lords many . . . but to us there is but one God--that is pertaining to us; and he is in all and through all (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 474). What Bible verse says this? 1 Corinthians 8:5:”For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),”

  15. Paul is teaching us that there are not many gods. Rather, he is teaching us that there are many that are "called" gods but are not really gods. We can see this elsewhere when Paul says in Gal. 4:8, "Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods." We can see that the Bible teaches that there is only one God, yet people believe in other gods. On the contrary, there are MANY verses in the Bible that say there is only one God

  16. “To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?” - Isaiah 46:5 “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:” - Isaiah 45:5 “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” - Isaiah 45:22 “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,” - Isaiah 46:9

  17. “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God” - Isaiah 44:6 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” - John 17:3 “To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord Himself is God; there is none other besides Him.” - Deuteronomy 4:35 This is not a issue the Bible is silent on, the witness of scripture is clear

The Mormon Trinity vs. The Christian Trinity "I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods," (Teachings of Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 370). The Mormon idea of the trinity is three Gods among many other Gods The Biblical view of the trinity is one being God eternally existing in three persons

  19. Can man become God? "Man and God are of the same race, and it is within the power of righteous man to become like his Father, that is to become a holy Man, a Man of Holiness," (Mormon Doctrine, p. 465-466). "God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted Man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens...I say, if you were to see him to-day, you would see him like a man in form -- like yourselves, in all the person, image, and very form as a man...

  20. …it is necessary that we should understand the character and being of God, and how he came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity,  I will refute that idea, and will take away and do away the veil, so that you may see....and that he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth the same as Jesus Christ himself did." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p. 3). According to the Mormon Church, we can all become God’s by obeying Mormon laws

  21. Is the doctrine of man becoming God found in the Bible? It is actually found one place Genesis 3:5… “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” The same lie that brought sin into the world is the same lie that will send millions of Mormons to hell… “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” - Isaiah 43:10

  22. The way you view God is the basis for every religion around the world Even if everything else that they say sounds the same as Christianity, if you have a different God, then you have a different religion and belief system. Memory Verse: “Even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God” - Psalms 90:2B
