  3. 1- Introduction: The idea of this VE term project is a common issue faced on yearly by family members here in KSA; families been working the whole year, and a month or two before this leave they start thinking where to go this year. Family members are 4 persons. Our project here in is to find the VE for the best family trip package; for a Saudi family never traveled outside the kingdom or even inside, and planning to enjoy their vacation, and this is their first one. cont. Note: • Facts were collected from the market. • It’s a simple example, as such idea is a common practice, and it can be seen that the traveling agencies are competing hardly to get more travelers; promoting their items using alternative attractive promotions and offers. • This VE is applicable to Eastern Province Area market.   6. 2.1- Information Phase Project Information and Family’s Item Criteria • As mentioned before, the project or the task of the VE is to select the best traveling package to be purchased for the family’s annual leave. As such selection should make sure it achieves the least traveling cost and covering it’s purpose / desired function perfectly. • The main proposal was to have a 2 weeks trip to Abha in Saudi Arabia. Since the family never been outside the Eastern Province. • cont. CEM512 / 043; 2005

Cont. • The family’s criteria for the package is: a- The package shouldn’t exceeds the assigned budget (SR 25,000). b- The package to be 2 weeks. c- Flight duration is not more than 4 hours(+/- 20 minutes). d- Family Entertainment. e- Historical places to be visited. f- Natural Scene. e- Weather should be nice enough. cont. Savings: on this study it shows that there was no saving, but the main faunction has been satisfied and maximized with an additional amount of money: Item Initial Cost 1- Abha SR19,800 2- Ankara SR23,250 Addition in initial cost SR3,450 =17% Addition Life Cycle Cost Results Expenditures were assumed to be considered as life cycle cost in this trip Idea Expenditures 1- Abha SR16,800 2- Ankara SR14,450 Saving in Life Cost Cycle SR2,350 =13.98%reduction cont.   20. 2.5- Development Phase: Value Study Summary (Ranked-1 Proposal): The ranked –1 proposal has alternative benefits superior on the others which lead to the choosing of this proposal and such profits are as follows: 1- Entertainment is more. 2- Expenditure is decreasing, so in case the family want to extend the vacation it will not cost more money. 3- Historical Places visited are old and multi-cultural. 4- Natural Scenes are better than those in Abha. For that, the proposed ranked-1 idea will meet the project criteria although extra money to be added but the main function were maximized. cont. CEM512 / 043; 2005

  21. Cont. Implementation Phase: Alternative questions to be implemented to ensure VE implementation properly. These questions are as follows: 1- How should it be implemented? The proposed case to be presented to the family members for their review and approval. 2- What should be changed and in what sequence? The proposed idea after being presented and explained ‘in comparison to other ideas and on the basis of actual facts and gathered information from friends, the package should be changed to Ankara and made all required reservations cont.   22. Cont. 3- Who should do it? The traveling agency should change package to Ankara. 4- How long should it take to implement the proposal? it is only one day visit to the agency office. 5- Any deadline required: as earlier as possible since seats are available. CEM512 / 043; 2005

  23. 2.6- Audit Phase: The audit phase will be taking place within the family members to go ahead and purchase the package and a final project report to be submitted to the father. CEM512 / 043; 2005
