  2. Who was Comenius? Hi. My name is Johann Comenius. I lived in what is now called the Czech Republic between 1592 and 1670. My belief was that only through education can man reach his true potential.

  3. Our Comenius Project: Five european schools will be working to produce an on-line magazine which can be read by pupils and teachers in each of the five schools.

  4. Our five schools are in: • Ballymena • Jerez de la Frontera • Domodossola, Piedmonte • Seelow, Berlin • Strasbourg Do you know where these places are?

  6. Our project will have two themes: Pollution and nutrition.

  7. How many worlds do we need? If everyone in the world was as wasteful as we are in the UK we would need 8 worlds to keep going.

  8. Most of our waste is burned or buried which is bad for our environment and our health

  9. Our throw-away culture is wasting resources and damaging people’s health

  10. What exactly is in our bins?

  11. Reduce, reuse, recycle…

  12. We want to focus on the theme of waste management. You will be split up into groups of two and over the next week will prepare a newspaper article on your topic. You should use ICT to produce the article.

  13. The topics are: • The problem of waste in NI • Landfill sites • Reduce • Reuse • Recycle- plastic bottles • Recycle- paper • Recycle- glass

  14. Topics cont. • Recycle- metals • Recycle- organic waste • Recycle- textiles • The nappy problem • Buying recycled products • What can our school do?
