  3. How do children learn according to Dr. Montessori? • An environment is first created, readied for learning • Contains the “appropriate materials or “learning games”” (Brisbane,p.459)

  4. Key: • Stresses the development of • senses • Language • Motor skills • This allows the person (both mind and body) to be prepared to learn more

  5. What does the classroom look like? • “Learning stations” for subject areas • Everything in child’s reach • At child’s eye level • Children don’t play, they “work” • Establish pride

  6. Learning • Children learn from themselves and other children • Real-life experiences

  7. Teacher’s role • Give students independence • Respect “instinctive pursuit” (Brisbane, p.460) • Give tools, then interfere as little as possible • Ages 7-12: Group lesson - minimum
