Tie to Assessment • 2 assessment consortiums have formed; both are focused on assessing students during the year, not solely at the end of the year • Clearer standards will allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in multiple ways • Alternate Assessments (1%) to be aligned to Common Core Standards • Common Assessment to be in place by 2014-2015

Impact on Transition Needs • Transition defined: (20 U.S.C. § 1401 sec. 602 [34]) • A coordinated set of activities for a child with a disability • Designed to facilitate the child's movement from school to post-school activities • Based on the individual child’s needs, taking into account the child’s strengths, preferences, and interests • Common core state standards will drive instruction within a framework of skills and expectations for inclusive participation, with a focus on college and career-readiness
