  2. Grounds • Potential Issues • Warning Flashers work only a few minutes at a time • Few signs directing visitors to main office • No ID badges • Some rooms not equipped with electronic lock system • No universal system for issuing hall passes

  3. Discipline Guidelines • Potential Issues • Lack of hallway supervision in halls during instruction and in bathroom/locker room areas. • Backpacks, purses, and book bags restricted but a few students still carry them around

  4. Safety Polices • Potential Issues • Some staff trained in CPR and First Aid but could be expanded • Poor relations between staff and teachers, particularly for girls and minorities. • No Crisis Kit A recent survey conducted by our Q Comp group on bullying shows bullying is viewed as a problem by significantly more of our female and minority students.

  5. Run Down of Survey • 22% more female students reported few students were friendly at school • An average of 31.5% of students reported some students making fun or threatening students of different backgrounds • 15% more of female students reported feeling teachers had no interest in them as a person • 19% more female students reported few or no teachers showed students respect • 7% more female students reported that bathrooms were an unsafe place in the school • 22% more female students reported unwanted sexual comments, jokes, gestures or looks

  6. Development & Enforcement of Policies • Potential Issues • Parents are not always a part of the discipline procedure • No policy in place for anonymous reporting of grievances • Issues with bullying, particularly for female and minority students

  7. Play Areas • Potential Issues • Grounds are not fenced in • Play area is not fenced in

  8. Vehicle and Bicycle Parking • Potential Issues • No parking permits issued • Access to parking areas not restricted, nor has equipment to be restricted

  9. Procedures for Data Collection & Intervention and Prevention Plans • Potential Issues • Diversity awareness is lacking • Female and minority students feel excluded from curriculum.

  10. Staff Development • Bullying • The in-house social worker and psychologist can provide training in how to spot and handle bullying, as well as how to build connections with students • Assign Q Comp groups to research various programs and policies that reduce bullying as well as how to integrate more diversity into the curriculum • Provide all staff with a print-out of the bullying survey referenced in this PowerPoint • More fully integrate female and minority students into the curriculum
