What Is Wikileaks? • Wikileaks is a ‘whistle-blowing’ website, which, using a global network of activists and volunteers, leaks government and corporate secrets via raw documents and information and footage provided by these volunteers. it also has an editorial council of 9 members, including Julian Assange. • In August 2007, The Guardian published a story about corruption by the family of the former Kenyan leader Daniel ArapMoi,based on information provided via WikiLeaks. • Wikileaks got worldwide fame after leaking a top secret apache helicopter video from 2007 where it shows a cameraman and civilians and children under fire. • July 2010, 90,000 american intelligence logs, about 77,000 were published to wikileaks about the afghan war, revealing hundreds of afghan civilians were killed in public over the years so far. • The leaks were wrong and gave a large distaste towards Wikileaks as they had not deleted some of the Informants names which could cause large problems for the informants(court-martialling, discharging from the army etc.)

Who is Julian Assange? • Julian Assange is the founder of wikileaks/editor-in-chief and an austrailian publisher, journalist and computer programmer and Internet activist. • Assange voluntarily went into UK police custody on 7 December 2010, when a European Arrest Warrant was issued in response to a Swedish police request for questioning in relation to a sexual assault investigation. • Assange appealed a February 2011 decision by English courts to extradite him to Sveden, claiming the allegations of wrongdoing were "without basis". • Computer hacker in his youth • He has lived in several countries and has made public appearances in many parts of the world to speak about press freedom, censorship, and investigative journalism.
