  2. Gymnosperms • Bear seeds directly on cones • Male cones and female cones • Rely on the wind to blow the seeds around • Most pollen in the air is pollen from a gymnosperm • Pine tree pollen is green • Pollen is plant sperm

  3. Examples of Gymnosperms • Conifers – pines and spruces • Cycads • Ginkgoes • Gnetophytes

  4. Angiosperms • Have flowers • Advantages • Attract animals - (bees, moths hummingbirds) to transport pollen from flower to flower • Don’t rely on wind for pollination

  5. Angiosperms • Flowers • Contain ovaries –surround and protect the seed • Ovary becomes a fruit • Surrounds the seed • Animal eats the fruit, seeds pass through the digestive system, seeds are deposited

  6. Examples of Angiosperms • Grasses • Flowering trees and shrubs • Wildflowers and cultivated flowers
