Triumph of the Will • Hitler knew the importance of repetition of his message rather by print,radio or even more powerful through the impact of film. • Since not everyone could attend, Hitler commissioned Leni to film every aspect of the Nuremberg NSDAP 1934 Congress where hundreds of thousands of National Socialists came together to celebrate their beliefs and “victory over the enemies of the German Volk”.

  3. With virtually unlimited funds, Leni set up mobile cameras as well as tracks to travel throughout Nuremberg.

  4. a bit about Leni • Helene Bertha Amalie "Leni" Riefenstahl (August 22, 1902-September 8, 2003) was a German film director, dancer and actress widely noted for her aesthetics and innovations as a filmmaker. Her most famous film was Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will), a propaganda film made at the 1934 Nuremberg congress of the Nazi Party. Riefenstahl's prominence in the Third Reich along with her personal friendships with Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels thwarted her film career following Germany's defeat in World War II, after which she was arrested but never convicted of war crimes.

  5. Triumph, released in 1935, won film awards in Germany, Italy, the U.S., France and Sweden.

After the World War II….. • After the war, Leni survived numerous war crimes trials, mainly due to the fact that she was never an actual card carrying Nazi party member. • She remained passionate about photography and film with her career reviving in the 1960s, she learned to scuba dive in her early 70s and worked until her death in 2003.

  8. Leni continued to film until her death in 2003, including the Nuba in Africa and marine life.
