2. The Care Commission: • is the national regulator of care services in Scotland • was set up under the ‘Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001’ • started operating in April 2002.

4. Involvement – Why? • Improved quality of services – more efficient and better care services that meet real needs and reflect community values. • Capacity building and learning for individuals and organisations • Provides a basis for future growth and • Development • Builds stronger communities.

5. How do the Care Commission involve people who use care services? • Involving People Group • Equality Consultation Panel • Lay Assessor Scheme • Care Commission Forums • Easy Read Documents • DVD’s

6. What do we expect of care services? • Must have formal mechanisms like a Participation / Involvement Strategy and Action Plan - to demonstrate how people who use care services are involved and able to influence how their care is delivered. • This should be implemented and reviewed both in care planning, reviews and in considering how the service is managed.

7.
