  2. Marie Curie: Background #1 • Marie had a passion for learning. It helped that her dad was a teacher of math and physics. When she was four she learned how to read (emporia.com). • When she got old enough to go to college the law stated that she was not allowed. Then she heard of a “floating university.” A “floating university” is a group of boys and girls getting together to learn and get an education secretly (notablebiographies.com).

  3. Marie Curie: Background #2 • She was very religious (emporia.com); Till her sister passed away. Then about two years later her mom passed away. • When things could not get any worse her dad lost his job. They were forced to rent out their small home to strangers (notablebiographies.com).

  4. Marie Curie: Becoming Famous #1 • She won two Nobel Prizes making her the first woman to win a Nobel Prize. Also making her the first person to ever win two Nobel Prizes. • She ended up giving both of them to help get funds for the war (famouspeoplebiographyguide.com).

  5. Marie Curie: Becoming Famous #2 • She won an award at Sorbonne University (famouspeoplebiographyguide.com). This was in the field of Nuclear Chemistry. • The award was given to her for helping to advance chemistry and for studying the element, Radium, very closely (nobelprize.com).

  6. Marie Curie: Making A Change #1 • Marie discovered Brachytherapy, a treatment that helps cure cancer. • In this treatment, they put a piece of radioactive material on the tumor of cancer and keep it there for as long as needed. • In the end this treatment should make the tumor smaller (brachytherapy.com).

  7. Marie Curie: Making A Change #2 • She made the mobile x-ray truck. This truck helped the war; It was driven in front of everything so it would always be ready if a soldier was injured. • It also helped the doctors find the bullet when a person was shot or determine if a bone was broken or not (myhero.com).
