Presentation Objectives • Provide the Board an overview of each of the five charter schools in the following areas: • Name of Public Non-Profit Entity • Initial Start Date • Current Charter Term • Status and Terms of Facilities • Evaluation of 2008-10 Student Achievement Data—API and AYP • Program Features 1

Cole Sr. Academy • Non-profit Entity—Templo Calvario Community Development Corporation • Opened September 8, 2003 • Current Charter Term—July 1, 2008-June 30, 2013 • 2010-2011 Proposition 39 Facilities Agreement Program Features • Volunteer Program with 15-20 volunteers a day working with students • New Literacy Center for students below intermediate level in CELDT and below basic on CST • Improve program for gifted and talented students • Continued need to focus on English Learners 2008-10 School-Wide API Met AYP? El Sol Science & Arts Academy of Santa Ana • Non-profit Entity—El Sol Science & Arts Academy of Santa Ana Charter School • Opened September 10, 2001 • Current Charter Term—July 1, 2006-June 30, 2011 • 2010-11 Proposition 39 Facilities Agreement Program Features • Approximately 50% of their students stay in their after school program which allows for an extended instructional day • New health center for their students, parents and the community that supports the wellness of their families • Dual Immersion Program 2008-10 School-Wide API 3

Orange County Educational Arts Academy (OCEAA) • Non-profit Entity—Orange County Educational Arts Academy Charter School • Opened August 18, 2005 • Current Charter Term—July 1, 2010-June 30, 2015 • School Owned Facilities Program Features • Working with California Reading Literacy Project (CRLP) to assist with improvement of instructional program • Working with District to ensure that explicit, direct instruction is occurring with stated language and content objectives • Continued need to focus on English Learners • Regular follow-up from District on conditional renewal 2008-10 School-Wide API Met AYP? NOVA Academy • Non-profit Entity—NOVA Academy Early College High School (ECHS) • Opened September 1, 2005 • Current Charter Term—July 1, 2008-June 30, 2013 • School Leased Facilities Program Features • Expectation that all students will take courses that will meet UC A-G requirements • Use of Senior Exit Portfolio as demonstration of achievement towards expected school-wide learning results • Do not have enough English Learners to have them as a significant subgroup • Under new principal direction 2008-10 School-Wide API CAHSEE Pass Rate? PI Status? 85% No 5

Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA) • Non-profit Entity—Orange County High School of the Arts Foundation • Opened September 1, 2000 • Current Charter Term—July 1, 2010-June 30, 2015 • School Owned Facilities Program Features • 14 Advanced Placement classes • Strong arts program • Demographic subgroups are not representative of SAUSD subgroups 2008-2010 School-Wide API CAHSEE Pass Rate? PI Status? 100% No 6
